Regional Agriculture Fair for Eastern Zone-2018

Three days Regional Agricultural Fair for Eastern Zone was inaugurated on 24th February 2018 at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour by Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, GoI, Shri Radha Mohan Singh in the gracious presence of Dr. Prem Kumar, Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Bihar; Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh; Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Shri Ajay Kumar Mandal, Member of Legislative Assembly; Dr. Parvinder Kaushal, Member of Bihar State Women Commission Dr. Nikki Hembram and Dr. N.K. Yadav, Member of Legislative Council.

The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. A.K. Singh thanked Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India for giving an opportunity to the university to organise Regional Agricultural Fair. Dr. Singh told that university is working hard for the upliftment of farming community and briefed the dignitaries about the farmer oriented research, extension and training activities of the university.

On this occasion, Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched the android based mobile application –Bihar Krishi App developed by Bihar Agricultural University. Along with the mobile app, documented success stories and technical films were also released on this occasion. During his inaugural speech Hon’ble Minister stated that eastern India has taken the responsibility of feeding the large majority of Indian population. He further stated that eastern India produced 50% paddy, 45% vegetable and 38% fishes. Acknowledging the contribution of Sabour Agricultural College & University to the field of agricultural education in India, Hon’ble minister stated that agricultural education is an effective instrument of improving the condition of agriculture in the country. Addressing farmers’ community he further stated that, Government of India is working hard for improving the agricultural education of India by establishing new Indian Agricultural Research Institutes and increasing the stipend for agriculture students. He further informed farmers that Govt. of India is gradually increasing the budgetary allocations in the agriculture sector for betterment of farming community and told that government is committed to ensure supply of neem coated urea to the farmers and highlighted the central govt. initiatives like e-NAM, starting new markets within each 50 KM radius, giving impetus for Soil Health Card, electricity provision , creating new initiatives in irrigations and linking MGNREGA with agriculture directly. Dr. Prem Kumar, Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Bihar told that state government is committed to increasing the farmers’ income and in this direction the Bihar Govt. has released Krishi Road Map and implementing the plans and projects accordingly. He also stated that government will be establishing three new Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the state in near future.

More than …………. farmers and agricultural stakeholders from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam and Odisha participated in the regional agricultural fair. During the fair, stalls of SAUs, ICAR institutes, banking agencies, input agencies and SHGs displayed recently developed technologies, miniature models of farm practices, farm products and farming services. In the regional fair, technical sessions and Kisan Ghoshthi (farmer-scientist discussions), cattle & animal show were organized on various farm production, livestock management and additional income generating activities. The progressive farmers from participating states are awarded with citations on this occasion.sssss

The valedictory function was held on 26th February 2018 in presence of Hon’ble Vice-chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh; Divisional Joint Director of Agriculture (Bhagalpur Division), Sri Shankar Kumar Chaudhary and the deans and directors of the Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour. During the valedictory session, awards for best farmers, best stalls and best performing animals were distributed under various categories..
